Counselor's Corner

Hi everyone! My name is Christina Hampton, and I am the school counselor here at Jane Long Elementary. I am a Houston native and grew up in the Alief area. I graduated from The University of Texas in 2019 with a double degree in Early Childhood Education and Black History Studies. I currently hold my Masters in School Counseling from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. As an educator, building relationships with students has always been my number one priority in and outside the classroom. When students feel safe and connected with me, everything else falls in to place and makes learning a better experience. I am so excited to be part of the Texan Family!

What does a School Counselor do?

I collaborate with teachers and parents to facilitate a positive school environment. I will present guidance lessons in the classroom that cover a variety of topics related to character development and social/emotional learning. I also will work with students individually and in a small group setting based on specific needs. I look forward to getting to know each student and building positive relationships!

I am excited to implement our district character education program here at Jane Long. Character Counts 5.0 embraces the 6 pillars of character which will be focused on monthly during classroom lessons. For more information visit www.charactercounts.org.

Character Counts Pillars:

  • Trustworthiness (September)
  • Respect (October)
  • Responsibility (November/December)
  • Fairness (January/February)
  • Caring (March)
  • Citizenship (April/May)
